The A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation's 21st Annual "Cliff Walk" for A.L.S Fundraiser, Sponsored by Superior Rail & Iron Works,  will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017.

This annual event is held every September in loving memory of Cliff Jordan, Jr., Edward J. Sciaba, Sr. and Janice Ferrara.

Supporters are invited to spend the day on the beautiful Cape Cod Canal (at DCR Scusset Beach Reservation, 140 Scusset Beach Road, Sagamore, MA) for a full day of fun and fundraising, featuring activities for the whole family, including raffles, prizes, BBQ, games, a balloon man, moon bounces, face painting, tug of war, bean bag toss, live musical entertainment and a scenic 7-mile walk along the Canal!

Proceeds benefit the many in-house patient programs of the A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation as well as research efforts.

About the Walk

This tradition began in 1997 when 35 year-old Cliff Jordan had been living with Lou Gehrig’s Disease for two years; his ability to speak or swallow had been taken by this incapacitating disease.

Cliff decided to hold a fundraising walk along the Cape Cod Canal accompanied by friends and family with proceeds going to Dr. Robert Brown, a leader in A.L.S. research. With only three week’s notice, the first walk drew sixty people and raised $6,000. While Cliff rode his bike seven miles closer to a cure, he was also marking the start of an amazing tradition.

In January of 1998, Edward J. Sciaba (father of Mary Ann (Sciaba) Singersen lost his battle with A.L.S. That Spring, the disease stole the life of Cliff Jordan, and in 2000, Janice Ferrara also lost her life to ALS. Grief stricken but resolute that they would not give up until a cure is found, their family members Donna Jordan, Mary Ann (Sciaba) Singersen, Lenny and Tony Ferrara vowed to help others going through the same ordeal.

Mary Ann and Donna formed the A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation and continue the Walk that Cliff started years earlier and honor their loved one’s memory by helping others going through similar ordeals.

Every year the Walk continues to grow and has raised over two million dollars since its inception.
